Seagulls and Waves

Water of Life book could not cover all the possible uses of water; I love searching for other verses or stories that are of the same theme. The Water Connection is the golden thread that we look for in scripture. The consistency of how the word, Water is used shows the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by the writers of the Bible. What could the use of the word water mean in these next verses? Is the water (The Word) saturating our lives? Is it pouring purpose into our routines, or even guidance in the midst of our paths?

Psalms 107

In this chapter, the Lord is praised for His goodness towards humanity because the people cried out to Him for rescue from their challenges, situations, troubles, and dilemmas. The Psalmist knew that Abba answered prayers even when the situation seems hopeless and helpless. When the Scriptures say, God saves, this chapter covers circumstances from which He saves us.

Do you think that these situations for these people were real? Of course, they are real; many sound like prayers you and I have prayed. The smallest of concerns like being at our “wits’ end,” in Psalms 107:27 and then to be rescued from a storm. The storm in verse 29 reminds me of the time Jesus stills the waters and hushes the wind. Like in Luke 8:22-25, He is with His disciples in the boat on the Sea of Galilee.

Then Psalms 107:33, Abba is turning lush areas into dry, thirsty ground and in verse 35 He reverses the parched ground into pools of waters or springs of water. In this story, the people who were hungry, yet they stayed, dwelled, and established themselves (a community) in this lush area of water and springs where they can plant food and have harvests of good yield (verse 37). The Water Connection of this situation has to be about Jesus’ parable of the Seed. Jesus, who waters our faith, our water source for growth. We blossom where we are planted. The story is a perfect example of Jesus as the vine and we are the branches. The Vine sends nourishment to the branches so we can bloom and produce fruit or produce where we are planted.

Psalms 107: 41 says we can be lifted out of suffering and distress, stating the Lord is faithful to bring us out of our affliction. We also know He meets us in the midst of the affliction. As the eternal Water of Life, Abba is ensuring you and I have a place to dwell that includes water (His Holy Spirit) and food (Jesus, the Bread of Life) – for we cannot live by bread alone as Jesus spoke in Matthew 4:4 – “But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, by Your name we live and breathe and have our being. Be our purpose and life. Set our eyes on Your joy and strength so we can walk in the paths that You placed before us. In Your name, Amen.
